Suspect in fatal February shooting indicted by grand jury

Matthew Sanders, 39, is charged with murder and felonious assault in the shooting death of Travis Williams, 32 on Feb. 24.

TOLEDO, Ohio — The suspect in a fatal February shooting who turned himself in to authorities has been indicted by a Lucas County Grand Jury.

Matthew Sanders, 39, is charged with murder and felonious assault in the shooting death of Travis Williams, 32, according to court documents. Police issued a warrant for Sanders' arrest on Feb. 28.

Toledo police found Williams in the 800 block of North Huron Street on Feb. 24 with a gunshot wound to the neck and jaw area.

According to the Lucas County Coroner's Office, Williams died on Feb. 29. His cause of death was found to be anoxic encephalopathy due to a gunshot wound to the neck.
