TOLEDO, Ohio — A Lucas County grand jury on Tuesday indicted a woman on an abuse of corpse charge for allegedly leaving a corpse in her apartment while she was still living there.
According to a court document, Josephine Torres, 39, lived in her south Toledo apartment on Wayne Street, next to where Airport Highway turns into Western Avenue, while the corpse decayed beyond recognition.
Her cat was also living in the apartment with her and another tenant was living downstairs, court documents say.
The abuse of corpse charge is a fifth-degree felony.
UPDATE: Torres pleaded not guilty in court on Tuesday and a trial date has been set for Jan. 8. She is still currently being held on bond.
