TOLEDO, Ohio — A man charged in the February north Toledo shooting and subsequent death of 32-year-old Travis Williams has been sentenced.
According to court records, Matthew Sanders, 39, entered an Alford plea to involuntary manslaughter on Aug. 16 after withdrawing a previous plea of not guilty. Sanders also entered a guilty plea on a charge of illegal conveyance of drugs of abuse onto the grounds of a specified governmental facility, a third-degree felony.
A Lucas County judge sentenced Sanders on Aug. 30 to 11 to 16.5 years in prison.
Williams was shot on Feb. 24 just before 10:30 a.m. in the 800 block of North Huron Street between Walnut Street and Locust Street. Police found Williams unresponsive with a gunshot wound to the neck and jaw area. He was transported to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.
According to the coroner's office, Williams died of his injuries on Feb. 29.
In March, Sanders turned himself in and was indicted on murder and felonious assault charges.
