Two juveniles shot near Waite High School on Saturday

Shots rang out just after 8 p.m. near the basketball court and career center at the school.

TOLEDO, Ohio — Police and rescue crews converged around Waite High School in east Toledo on Saturday evening after two juveniles were shot.

The shooting happened just after 8 p.m. near Morrison Dr. and 2nd Street.

Toledo police say the victims suffered non-life-threatening injuries as a result of the drive-by shooting.

No suspects have been identified according to police.

A neighbor that spoke to WTOL 11 says she heard about 8 gunshots and held the shooting victim’s hand until police arrived.

"Me and my husband went over there and started ordering and my husband tied one of the tourniquets on one of the kid's legs. And then one of the young men asked me to hold his hand and call his mom, so I did," said neighbor Sandy Boisselle. "It's just sad that the kids can't even play basketball because of other dumb kids actions."

Other neighbors say this is not the first time shots have been fired in the area recently specifically near the basketball courts.

"It’s just waiting to happen. It’s so close to the street that for us we felt it was inevitable that someone is going to drive by shooting at them because it’s such a close target," said neighbor Dan Jaksetic. "And that’s where they like to hang out, right here.”
