Person dead after north Toledo shooting; suspect arrested

Cato Hornbeak was arrested for the shooting death of Sharod Taylor on Stickney Avenue at about 6 p.m. Thursday.

TOLEDO, Ohio — Editor's note: This story has been updated to include information gathered by reporter Kalie Marantette.

One person died after a shooting in north Toledo Thursday evening, Toledo police told WTOL 11.

Sharod Taylor, 39, was found suffering multiple gunshot wounds in a parking lot in the 3400 block of Stickney Avenue at about 6 p.m. He was later pronounced dead at the hospital.

TPD said Cato Hornbeak, 19, was arrested by officers at the scene and charged with murder. He was booked in the Lucas County Jail Thursday on charges including murder and felonious assault.

According to an autopsy report from the Lucas County Coroner's Office, Taylor's cause of death was found to be multiple gunshot wounds to the chest. His death was ruled a homicide.

A judge set Hornbeak's bond at $1 million.

WTOL was told by a source that the incident began over a coffee at a Wendy's restaurant on Stickney Avenue. It then escalated, which led to Hornbeak, an employee at the Wendy's shooting Taylor.

Wendy's, based in Dublin, Ohio, provided WTOL with the following statement:

"Our number one priority is the safety of our employees and customers. We are deeply disturbed by this senseless act of violence. We will continue to do whatever we can to work with local law enforcement as they conduct their investigation."
