Windows shattered by gunfire at Dave & Buster's; shooting under investigation, Toledo police say

Toledo police responded to a report of shots fired at Dave & Buster's Sunday evening. Windows had been hit by gunfire and shell casings found at the Royer St. side.

TOLEDO, Ohio — Editor's note: The following story has been updated to reflect new information made available in a Toledo police report.

A shooting is under investigation in west Toledo after a business was struck by gunfire Sunday evening.

Officers responded to a report of shots fired at Dave & Buster's in the 5000 block of Monroe Street shortly before 5:45 p.m. Sunday, according to a Toledo police report. A witness approached police and told them she saw two people who appeared to be aged 16-17 wearing face masks and backpacks shooting at the side of the building using tech-9s. The witness said she saw the suspects run through the apartment complex behind 4080 Royer Road.

Security footage showed one suspect was wearing light gray pants and a dark gray jacket, while the other was wearing black pants and a red puffy overcoat.

In a report, police said a person working Dave & Buster's security said they denied entry to two suspects matching the description because they were wearing hoods and face masks and could not provide ID. According to the witness, the suspects became angry, then left and walked to the Royer Road side of the building.

Because of the noise in the building, the security officer did not hear any gunshots, police said.

Multiple glass windows on the Royer Street side of the business had been struck by gunfire. Our WTOL 11 crew at the scene reported at least one door had been hit by gunfire as well.

Several shell casings were found at the scene, police said. No injuries were listed on the police report.

The incident is under investigation.

If you have any information regarding the shooting that may help Toledo police in their investigation, you are asked to call or text Crime Stoppers at 419-255-1111. You can remain anonymous.
