TOLEDO, Ohio — A woman was convicted Tuesday of causing a south Toledo crash that killed two people and injured a third in late February.
Jasmine Pitts withdrew her previous plea of not guilty and pleaded guilty to two counts of involuntary manslaughter, one count of felonious assault and one count of failure to stop after after an accident.
Pitts is scheduled to be back in court for sentencing on July 25. Her bond was continued at $1.6 million.
According to Toledo police, Pitts intentionally rammed the vehicle she was driving into another vehicle near Cordova Street and South Avenue at approximately 5 a.m. on Feb. 26.
The collision caused the second vehicle to lose control and strike a utility pole, severely injuring occupants 30-year-old Jasmine Gresham and 25-year-old Donta Marshall. Both later died at the hospital.
A Lucas County Coroner's Office autopsy report found their causes of death to be blunt force injuries. A third occupant of the victim's vehicle was treated and released.
Toledo police Lt. Paul Davis in February told WTOL 11 that an investigation revealed that Pitts was in a relationship with Gresham and an argument between the two is what caused the crash.
"Two females that were involved in this were in a dating relationship," he said. "There was some type of argument that ensued that preceded the crash, and whatever that was led to [the crash]."
