TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) - A man who police say admitted he raped a 6-year-old child inside a Holland daycare center where he worked has entered a not guilty by reason of insanity plea to the charge.
Cody Champagne, 23, entered the plea in court on Thursday. Sheriff's deputies say Champagne admitted to raping a child inside the Children's Discovery Center on Timberwolf Drive in Holland. Champagne worked at the center until he was arrested.
A judge increased Champagne's bond form $250,000 to $500,000 on Thursday because more children are being interviewed to determine if there may be more victims.
If convicted of the rape charge, Champagne could face either 15 years to life in prison, or life in prison without the possibility of parole.
Champagne is due back in court on April 30.
