Rossford Glenwood Elementary school demolition starts

The 1927 building will become a parking lot for teachers.

ROSSFORD, Ohio — It's the end of an era for the Rossford community as their Glenwood Elementary School building gets demolished.

With the school year finished, the time has come for the old building to make way for their future elementary school that will be built on the same property.

The school was built in 1927 and in recent years, its upkeep has become problematic.

The biggest problem for students is that the structure has no climate control and the third floor classrooms reached 90 degrees in the last school year.

Additionally, in the winter, the old boiler system had to run so hot all day long that some classrooms had to open their windows to let some of the hot air out.

A newer portion of the school, which was built in the 80's, has been renovated and will be incorporated into the new building.

As for the portion being demolished, the area will soon be the new teacher parking lot.

Principal Jeff Taylor said teachers are excited to begin moving into the new school building by the third week of August and begin offering their students a once in a lifetime upgrade in their classrooms.

"It took us five tries, I think, with the levies. So, it's been a long time coming, a lot of work for district and community, people who were really involved in getting the levy passed. And it's just great to have a community support this/ And we'll have 21st century learning environment for our kids," Taylor said.

The entirety of this old school building is expected to be completely demolished and removed within the next 5 weeks.

The school district will soon announce on their social media pages how you can pick up a commemorative brick from the old school building.
