TOLEDO -- New DNA evidence has tied the same man to three vicious crimes that date back five year in Toledo. The problem? Toledo Police still don't know who he is, or where to find him. They're hoping for the public's help.
In April of 2000, 19-year-old Chrishana Logan was found raped and strangled inside her Robinwood Avenue home. Her mother has struggled, living without closure, for more than five years. "It's kind of hard because when you don't know really, you really want to know what happened, why basically and it's just like it's hanging over my head," said Everlean Logan, the victim's mother.
There could now be renewed hope for Everlean Logan. Toledo Police say DNA evidence from Chrishana's killing matches DNA from two other crimes in 2000, including the rape of a 13-year-old girl who was kidnapped from a bus stop and the rape of a 17-year-old girl.
Police now have a sketch of the serial rapist. "We know that this person was in Toledo for at least a six month period in 2000, may still be here now and we're hoping that the public can come forward and help us," said Sergeant Steve Forrester of the Toledo Police. He says the Ohio Attorney General's office told police about the DNA matches just in the last month, but investigators aren't sure who the suspect is because he's not in state database that stores DNA profiles of convicted felons.
That means one of two things. "He had not been incarcerated since 1996 or he hadn't been incarcerated for a crime that fit the criteria that the state would have taken a sample from him," said Sgt. Forrester.
Now that she's heard the news, Chrishana's mother is making an emotional plea to anyone who could help solve three vicious crimes. "If anybody thinks they have anything, anything at all, just come forward, come forward," said Logan.
The suspect in the rapes and the murder was described as a black male in his 40's. He's about 5'7" with a large stomach. The rape victims said he was not circumcised and that he may have a tattoo on his upper left arm.
