Dorr St bridge over 75 near Downtown to close

The project has been pushed back a few times, but with the mild weather we've seen, crews are now ready to get to work for the good part of this year.

TOLEDO (WTOL) - Questions have been coming in about the impending Dorr Street bridge closure leading into Downtown.

The project has been pushed back a few times, but with the mild weather we've seen, crews are now ready to get to work for the good part of this year.

The Dorr Street bridge between Division Street and Washington Street over I-75 will be closing Wednesday, January 9.

Local businesses want folks to know they are still open, but you may need to drive a little further to get around the construction.

Pastor Robert Cunningham, Jr. of the Lighthouse Center of Hope Church on Division Street encourages people to pay them a visit.

“We are remaining open during the construction. Hopefully there will be great, or good results afterwards. It’s going to be worth waiting for," he said.

From Dorr, Division Street will not be accessible for much of the project and traffic will have to access the church and adjacent neighborhood from Collingwood to Dorr. This local bridge is just one part of the larger I-75 project that spans across the DiSalle Bridge and leads into Downtown Toledo.

ODOT hoped to close this local bridge one direction at a time, but due to heavy utility work, it needs to be completely closed, including to foot traffic.

“This bridge is going to be closed for 300 days, so it’s going to look to reopen early November. That is a really long duration, we understand that, so that’s why we want to get out there and let people know that this bridge is closing, and it is part of the greater I-75 project which is going to be ongoing for a couple of years still, and we’ve got a lot of longer closures with that, but this being the first one and especially right off the bat in 2019,” Rebecca Dangelo, local spokesperson for ODOT said.

To detour around the bridge: from the West or South you should take Collingwood to Monroe to 17th, or reverse that if you’re coming from downtown.

All work is weather permitting.
