DUNDEE, MI (WTOL) - Splash Universe indoor water park in Dundee is preparing to reopen more than eight months after tornadoes damaged the complex.

Splash Universe General Manager Keith Alexander says debris was everywhere and that the back portion of the resort, which includes the water park and hotel rooms, was heavily damaged.

In fact, the twister punched huge holes in the wall and roof and fractured a water line. As a result, the building had to be gutted down to the sheetrock.

"The miracle for us was that nobody got seriously hurt or injured," said Alexander.

Some hotel rooms reopened in August.

Splash Universe has hired back 150 workers as construction workers are putting the final touches on the water park.

The economic impact of thousands of visitors returning to the water park will reach even further.

"When they come and they're staying with us they're going across the street to spend money, they're going down the street to spend money, they're going to Cabella's," said Alexander.

After spending millions in clean up and repair costs, Splash Universe will reopen March 3.
