MILLBURY, Ohio — Millbury residents got to explore the new Lake Elementary School for the first time on Sunday.
The 91,000-square-foot building holds two floors of classrooms, spanning Pre-K through fifth grade, according to Lake Local Schools.
It features several upgrades from the old elementary school building, including 20 additional classrooms.
The school will also have a multi-purpose "Cafenasium" for breakfast, lunch and Phys. Ed. classes. In addition, a new full-size kitchen will eliminate the need for food to be brought over from the high school.
Over 800 students will walk its halls this school year.
“I was a five-year-old that walked through the old elementary building. So for me, this is very humbling,” said Mandy Wilburn, principal of Lake Elementary School. “To see that elementary and how that helped me throughout the years, but then to see it be demolished and then create this brand new space for kids moving forward for hopefully many, many years from now, lots of learning and lots of fun taking place."
Classes at the new school start on Monday, Sept. 2.
