Next superintendent of Washington Local Schools shares plans for upcoming school year

Kristie Martin has over 20 years of experience with the district.

TOLEDO, Ohio — There's a new superintendent stepping in to lead Washington Local Schools, replacing Dr. Kadee Anstadt who announced her decision to retire earlier this year.

Kristie Martin, who had previously worked as the district's assistant superintendent, has been with the district for over two decades. On Thursday, she officially began her new position as the district's superintendent.

"I've been preparing for this for 23 years," Martin said. "I was an elementary principal in the district, then the junior high principal, then the high school principal in the district. And for the last three years, I was assistant superintendent."

Martin said she hopes the transition will be smooth because of her extensive experience in education and expertise in the district.

"The board put their faith in me and hopefully the community will next," Martin said. "I was able to just really move into that role. So, I'm very excited. I know the district. I've been in the district. I've been immersed in the district, so I think the transition, not only for me, but for the whole staff and for our students, will be pretty fluid."

She said she has always enjoyed the start of the school year and is excited to greet the students as their new superintendent.

"I look forward to continuing the work. We have a lot of momentum going on in this district," she said. "I just really plan to take where we left off and continue that, continue to grow. I don't need to come in and revamp and change a lot of things because we have so many amazing things going on," said Martin.
