MILLBURY, Ohio — Lake Local Schools district leadership has found its next superintendent.
Current Perrysburg Fort Meigs Elementary principal Marjoe Cooper will replace current superintendent Jim Witt, the district announced Monday. Witt is preparing to retire after 17 years leading the district.
The Lake Local Schools Board of Education will have a special meeting on Wednesday to formally hire Cooper.
Cooper has been with Perrysburg Schools for six years following administrative positions at Fremont City Schools. The search for Witt's replacement was led by the Ohio School Boards Association and identified candidates from across the state, according to Lake Local Schools board president Brad Blandin.
"Marjoe impressed our staff and the board with his warm, open, collaborative leadership approach and his commitment to visibility," Blandin said in a statement Monday. "His passion for students and to continued academic improvement is clear. His building leadership experience and track record with student achievement resonated with the board."
Cooper is expected to be in the district occasionally to work with outgoing superintendent Witt before officially beginning his duties as superintendent on Aug. 1.
