BOWLING GREEN -- There is a new warning out for college students. Con artists are posing as financial aid assistants to scam students out of their money.
Bowling Green State University officials say a person calls a student saying they work for the Department of Education. The caller tells the student he/she understands the student has federal student loans and offers to replace the loans with an $8,000 grant for a fee. The caller then asks the student for their bank account number.
Some BGSU student say they believe freshman could fall victim to the scam. Kelley Lamb says "They are getting a lot of information from the school and government this would be ample time for somebody".
Bowling Green State University has e-mailed a warning to students, giving them tips on what to look our for and what to do if they are scammed.
