FINDLAY, OH (WTOL) - The Findlay School District held a public meeting on Monday night to inform residents on a levy that could help improve safety and security in the districts school buildings.
Findlay City Schools placed a 1.5 mill levy on the November ballot.
If passed, it would generate $1.2 million a year.
The purpose of the additional funding is three-fold: to pay for additional security personnel, improving and expanding mental health services, and adding safety and surveillance equipment.
Those improvements were decided after a large safety meeting held in March
"We had been looking at it, but it kind of verified where we had been looking. We also feel pretty confident in the fact that other communities are looking into the same areas that we are. So we think that we are spot on with what we can improve our safety and security," said Ed Kurt, superintendent at Findlay City Schools
Monday night's meeting will inform voters on what the money will be going towards if passed.
However, it's not the only time the district will be talking about the levy.
"We're going to do additional community meetings, whether that's the Rotary Club or other organizations like that. We will be in the parades, be going door to door, meeting with the various PTO's," said Matt Hull, levy co-chair.
Ed Kurt said that the district will be transparent with the money if approved, and will constantly update the public on how it is being spent.
"And we will tell them exactly where that goes. This is a five-year levy, so annually we will do that every July/August when things get finalized for the year," said Kurt.
