FINDLAY, OH (Toledo News Now) – Findlay students will be heading back to school Wednesday, but some students will only be at their school a few months. The community is looking to turn a middle school into something bigger.
Central Middle School will be closing in December 2012 but its closing will allow the community to enjoy the building in a new way.
The school auditorium is estimated to cost $10 million. Currently, Findlay City Council is working to raise money and get the community's support for the project.
Once construction is complete, all city residents will able to use the facility. However, action will not be taken until middle school students have permanently relocated into two brand new schools.
"We're working with our community on possible ideas of doing something with the auditorium, but by next year at this time, everybody will know what's happening to Central," said Dean Wittwer, superintendent of Findlay Public Schools.
So far no plans for the auditorium have been finalized. The Blanchard Valley Port Authority will be presented with renovation plans in September to determine if there is enough financial support to move forward.
