Findlay working towards national recognition of downtown

Findlay is working to gain some national recognition for their entire downtown. They were the first emerging Main Street Program in the state.

FINDLAY, OH (Toledo News Now) - Findlay is working to gain some national recognition for their entire downtown. They were the first emerging Main Street Program in the state.

In order to achieve the coveted title, they have to meet four requirements. Findlay needs to improve their downtown promotions, organization, economic restructuring and design of the area.

Findlay passed the annual review for the program by heritage Ohio. Organizers hope to become a main street community by April next year.

Officials said gaining the title will bring in tourism dollars to local businesses. Several groups are working together achieve the downtown revitalization their deadline.

A part time position was even added to the Hancock County Alliance to oversee the project. People who visit downtown say the area is vibrant and there's always something to do.

"I like it a lot I like that the libraries down here like that there's places to eat places to get coffee it's really nice," said resident Nicole McConnehea.

McConnahea said she walked two miles just to go shopping downtown, another sign the improvements may be working.
