OREGON, OH (WTOL) - It may be 80 degrees, but fall is in the air. A popular pumpkin patch is open for the season.
The Davies family makes it a point to always make the trip from Oak Harbor to visit Fleitz Pumpkin Farm in Oregon.
"Today is her second birthday and tomorrow is my birthday, so generally we come out right around this time on our birthdays and celebrate our birthdays and pick some pumpkins and get donuts and play," said mother of four, Lynden Davies.
Besides picking out pumpkins, the family said there's a lot to do.
"I just played in the corn pit and it was amazing," exclaimed 11-year-old, Lilyana Davies.
"The corn maze. I like it because last time we went in the corn maze and I like the tractor ride as well," added 8-year-old Josephine Davies.
It's the farm's 30th year running the pumpkin patch.
The owner said things have changed quite a bit over the decades.
"It started out real small, I just had a patch of pumpkins. They seemed to sell good and then people would ask, 'don't you have gourds?' 'No, I don't have gourds.' But then the next year I had gourds," said Paul Fleitz.
The pumpkin farm added sweet treats a number of years ago. The donuts are just as popular as the gourds.
The farm also added mazes, hayrides, a barn full of children's activities and some goats for the kids to feed. The pumpkins are still at the core and Fleitz says dry weather early in the season made for a good crop.
Fleitz is happy to welcome families for another season.
"Everywhere we go, people tells us how much they like our place and it's just nice to hear that," he said.
The farm is open daily from 10 a.m. through 7 p.m. through October.
