TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) - Land where Jeeps used to be assembled is in the process of being revitalized and eventually ready for business.
Plans continue to move ahead at the former site of the Jeep plant in Toledo but there is still a lot of work to be done. Port Authority officials say they see the future right before their eyes.
That future will take shape even more when ground is broken in the middle of June for construction of a new 100,000 square foot building at the site.
"Our goal here is that once we get this first building built and get a tenant we're going to continue on and keep building more because we know there's demand out there," said Paul Toth, President, Toledo-Lucas County Port Authority.
Crews have been spending countless amounts of hours the last year cleaning up the site, getting it ready for business. Officials are very optimistic about what is to come at this site.
"We're seeing the auto industry rebound. We're seeing manufacturing come back and we think this is a critical time for us to take advantage," said Toth.
The total transformation of the former Jeep plant site will take about two years to complete at a price tag of around $32 million. All of the money is coming from local, state and federal funding.
