FREMONT, Ohio — Fremont Mayor Danny Sanchez and Sandusky County Commissioner Scott Miller proclaimed this week to be Hospital Appreciation Week in the county as a way of making their appreciation for the local hospital known.
For nearly 101 years, Memorial Hospital, which is now operated by ProMedica, has served its community.
Recently, the hospital has added multiple new services to help treat chronic diseases that patients would normally have had to travel to Toledo to treat.
"We've found by bringing some of these services for our people who have these chronic long term diseases, that we can help manage it better so that they don't end up in the hospital," Pam Jensen, president of ProMedica Memorial Hospital, said.
The hospital has also recently finished one of the phases of their renovation plan by upgrading their Acute Care Clinic to now hold 18 beds, expanding their labor and delivery, and fully renovating the main lobby.
That was along with adding Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease, Congestive Heart Failure and Pulmonary Rehab clinics.
"It shows the commitment to the community, you know. ProMedica stuck a lot of money into this hospital, so I believe it is important for the community to show that same support back to the hospital," Sanchez said.
The planning for the next renovation phase of the hospital will begin this week.
