GENOA, OH (Toledo News Now) - A World War II veteran and his wife had a big honor to be proud of on Wednesday night. Ned and Ruth Ammons celebrated their 70th anniversary. Close family and friends threw a party for them at Cousino's Steakhouse on Woodville Road.

We first caught up with Ned Ammons last October when he returned to Toledo Express Airport from an Honor Flight to see the war memorials in Washington, D.C. The Ammons are originally from Hancock County and were married 70 years ago Wednesday in Findlay. They live in Genoa.

When asked what the secret was of such a long and lasting marriage, Ruth Ammons said, "Not everything goes right but you have to work through it and we've enjoyed each other, did a lot of fun things."

With a big smile on his face, her husband said, "70 years. It doesn't seem like 70. It went too fast. Way too fast. She's been very good."

Right before dinner started, and after a toast, Ned and Ruth shared not one or two but three kisses at the urging of their great grandchildren. They have three children, six grandchildren, and six great grandchildren.

"I got a good family. I am very proud of them. They are, all of them, there is nothing they wouldn't do for us and there's nothing I wouldn't do for them. As a matter of fact, they are very, very good at helping other people. Very good. I'm proud of them," said Ned Ammons.

There's no doubt, the family is proud of the two of them even more.
