SPRINGFIELD TWP. (WTOL) - The Springfield Township Fire Department has many brave members of their squad - including two 4-legged ones.
K9 Darwin and K9 Atlas are handled by firefighter and paramedic Shelbie Flegal and are important members of the team.
The department says K9 Darwin is a cadaver dog who is trained to find human remains, and K9 Atlas is an area search dog trained to find lost people.
K9 Atlas is also working towards getting her Disaster Certification and is working with Toledo Fire and Rescue’s Urban Search and Rescue Team.
Springfield Fire says the dogs are a great asset to the area and are available to other local fire and police departments when needed to help locate potential victims.
