FREMONT, Ohio — While many communities across northwest Ohio are being forced to cancel or to postpone Fourth of July fireworks, leaders with the City of Fremont have found a way to make theirs even bigger.
The city of Fremont will still have its Independence Day fireworks display launch for the community on July 4, despite the ongoing concern over coronavirus - but things will look a little different this year.
After partnering with Terra State Community College, the event will be held as a drive-in fireworks event.
As the rockets fire off from Terra's campus, folks can enjoy the fireworks for free from inside or just outside of their cars in the parking lot while also practicing social distancing.
The final time of the event hasn't been set just yet, but it will be after sunset.
And to top it all off, thanks to generous local donations, the display this year is double in size compared to last years.
"We want to provide at least some sort of normalcy back to our community members. This is a very good community out here, we're very tight knit, everybody knows everybody and everybody gets along. And they elected our officials to provide them with these services, and that's exactly what we're going to do," Fremont safety-service director Kenneth Frost said.
Once all of the remaining details are finalized for the joint Fourth of July celebration, organizers will post those details on the official city of Fremont Facebook page.
