TOLEDO, Ohio — Hospice of Northwest Ohio will operate ProMedica's palliative care services at the start of next year, according to a press release from Hospice released Monday.
The company said ProMedica's patients who remain in palliative care will be transferred to Sincera Supportive Care and Symptom Relief, one of Hospice of Northwest Ohio's services. Sincera will also take over responsibility for ProMedica's palliative care outpatient clinics, Hospice of Northwest Ohio said.
Sincera's palliative services will be provided to patients at the following ProMedica facilities:
- ProMedica Bay Park Hospital
- ProMedica Toledo Hospital
- ProMedica Flower Hospital
- ProMedica Monroe Regional Hospital
“As a community-based, mission-driven non-profit organization, we have embraced palliative care as a critical community need,” Richard Russell, President and CEO of Hospice of Northwest Ohio said in the press release. “We continually look for opportunities to expand access to care through service delivery and strong partnerships. Combining these programs assures more of our community’s seriously ill will have access to expert compassionate care at every step of their journey.”
Hospice of Northwest Ohio said it will fully assume operations on Jan. 1, 2025.
A ProMedica spokesperson told WTOL 11 in November 2023 that the company had sold parts of its business - including palliative care - in order to focus more time, energy and resources on its core operations.
The sale resulted in the acquisition of ProMedica's home health, palliative and hospice businesses to Gentiva, another palliative care business.
According to a Hospice of Northwest Ohio spokesperson, while Gentiva retains ownership of ProMedica's community-based palliative care businesses, Hospice of NWOH took over the operations of ProMedica's hospital and clinic-based palliative care.
