74-year-old Super Fitness Weight Loss Challenge participant working to lose weight even as he uses wheelchair and walker

See the determination of one challenge participant to get healthy despite obstacles.

TOLEDO, Ohio — In a remarkable display of determination and courage, 74-year-old John Archibok from Temperance has emerged as a true inspiration in the recent Super Fitness Weight Loss Challenge event at the Toledo Zoo, earning the prestigious Heart of the Lion Award. What makes his achievement even more extraordinary is that Archibok is participating in the challenge from a walker and a wheelchair.

Archibok's journey to weight loss began when he stumbled upon the Toledo Zoo Challenge. Undeterred by physical limitations, he decided to take on the challenge, seeking to shed a significant amount of weight with the blessing of his doctor.

"Totally surprised!" Archibok exclaimed after the event, clearly humbled by the recognition he received. The Heart of the Lion Award is a testament to his unwavering commitment to transforming his life.

"And of course thrilled that everybody thought I deserve it," Archibok added, expressing his gratitude for the support he received.

Motivated by the desire to stay competitive and improve his health, Archibok set a goal to lose 40 pounds, aiming to reach a target weight of 180 pounds. At the start of his journey, he weighed 220 pounds, but with determination and persistence, he is making strides toward his weight loss goal.

Not only has he seen progress in his weight loss journey, but Archibok has also experienced positive changes in his health. Increased physical activity has allowed him to reduce the amount of insulin he takes, showcasing the broader impact of his efforts on overall well-being.

In a message to those who may doubt their ability to embark on a similar journey, Archibok said, "There's no such thing as can't. There's only will. The will to do it and the ability to say I did it."

Kelly Heidbreder, the Super Fitness Weight Loss host, noted the powerful message that Archibok's story conveys.

"Do you see the heart of a lion like we do? There is no such thing as can’t. Only the will to do it. And the ability to say I did it! I’m sure he has inspired that lion in you too!"

Archibok's journey serves as a beacon of inspiration, proving that age and physical challenges are no match for the determination to lead a healthier life.
