PERRYSBURG, Ohio — It sounds like the deal of a lifetime: a historic building in downtown Perrysburg is for sale for just $1.
Located on prime real estate, the unassuming white building is near the corner of East 2nd Street and Louisiana Avenue in downtown Perrysburg.
The big, yellow sign on the front is catching the attention of the community.
"I thought it was extremely clever, and it's kind of a tall order," said Bob Domini, who lives and works in downtown Perrysburg.
The fine print reads, "Buyer must relocate intact within 120 days or agreed upon time frame."
"He's just looking for the right person. Somebody with obviously a reasonably close distance from here to move the entire building intact," Domini said.
From the outside, the building looks to be in a bit of disrepair. The wood siding isn't in great shape and the building slants in the back.
It was most recently a gift shop of sorts, but it served a much different purpose when it was built in the late 1800s.
Richard Baranowski is a local history librarian with the Way Public Library. He said it was built around 1875 as a law office.
The builder's son later took it over.
"He had a doctor's office there. He used to go on house calls on his bicycle," Baranowski said.
He added that a number of other businesses came and went over the years, including a barber shop.
WTOL reached out to one of the owners to learn more about the intentions for the property but he declined an interview.
Since the building is in Perrysburg's Historical District, any changes must go through the Historical Landmarks Commission.
The owners came before the commission to inquire about demolishing the building. At that point, it was suggested to have an engineer assess the building or look at relocating it.
As of now, there has been no formal submission to the commission to do either.
In the meantime, some said they wouldn't really miss the little white building.
"It's outlived its useful life, basically it's just ready for the grave yard," Domini said.
