New details on TPD officer charged with rape | 11 Investigates

Raul Jaso was indicted on a rape charge in October. Affidavits show what police took in a search warrant and what Jaso said happened.

TOLEDO, Ohio — 11 Investigates has obtained documents that show details of what happened the night of an alleged rape involving a Toledo police officer.

Raul Jaso has been with TPD for six years and was indicted on a rape charge in early October.

Not much information had been released about the incident, but 11 Investigates was given a supplemental report and affidavits that show what led up to the alleged rape and what happened.

Documents show that Jaso and the accuser had been casually dating for a few years. On Aug. 15, 2023, the woman told police that she was hanging out with Jaso and they went to the bar. They had a few drinks and then went back to Jaso's house. His 20-year-old nephew was also at the house. The woman claims Jaso urged her to his bedroom and started aggressively taking off her clothes and that he was far more aggressive than he ever had been.

The documents state he forced her onto her stomach and then forcibly raped her from behind. The accuser told Jaso she needed to use the restroom and that's when she found she was bleeding.

She told police when she left the bathroom, he grabbed her again and continued to sexually assault her. She claims Jaso held her wrists above her head and behind her back.

She did end up leaving and getting a sexual assault nurse examination done. Nurses found that there was physical trauma.

The affidavit states that Jaso claims the sex was consensual. Jaso told officers that the accuser was upset he got a text from another woman and kicked his dog, then left.

Detectives obtained Jaso's cell phone, bloody bed sheets, towels and Jaso's clothes.

Jaso is due back in court on Nov. 20.

After being told of the investigation, TPD conducted an internal investigation and relieved Officer Jaso of duty without pay, pending the outcome of the case against him.

"Upon notification of the investigation concerning Officer Jaso, immediate actions were taken to relieve him of his regular duties pending the outcome of both the criminal and internal investigations. It is important to remember that, as with anyone who has been accused of a crime, Officer Jaso has the right to due process of law,” Toledo police chief Michael Troendle said when Jaso was indicted.

Jaso has been with the Toledo Police Department for six years and was regularly assigned to field operations, according to TPD.
