Plea hearing for Lisa Titkemeier, woman accused in cancer con, pushed back

Toledo woman charged with felony theft after she was accused of lying about cancer diagnosis for financial gain.

TOLEDO, Ohio — For the second time, an expected plea hearing has been pushed back for Lisa Titkemeier, a Toledo woman accused of faking a cancer diagnosis for financial gain.

Her arraignment was scheduled for Thursday morning, but that is now scheduled for 11 a.m. on June 13 inside the courtroom of Lucas County Common Pleas Court Judge Lori Olender. Titkemeier has been charged with a fourth-degree felony county of theft. Investigators said she lied about a cancer diagnosis in order to raise nearly $20,000 from the community.

On April 18, her case was continued because investigators said they needed more time to complete their investigation. No reason has been provided for Thursday’s continuance.

On March, 11 Investigates first reported that Titkemeier was being investigated by Ohio’s Bureau of Criminal Investigation for lying about her lymphoma diagnosis. Tikemeier was instrumental in raising money for slain police officers Anthony Dia and Brandon Stalker. During those fundraising efforts, she mentioned to friends that she was battling cancer.

However, a BCI investigation revealed that she has not been treated, or even diagnosed, with cancer. Four separate benefits raised $16,833.65. The family also received gift cards, house cleaning services, and meals from community members.
