East Toledo street patched up after construction leaves behind dirt patches, damaged sidewalks

The city of Toledo worked with E & K Contractors to replace water lines on Arden Place.

TOLEDO, Ohio — The city has made progress on fixing a mess left behind by construction on Arden Place, according to a resident of the east Toledo street.

Yarida Avelar reached out to Call 11 for Action in October after months of frustration about dirt patches and missing sidewalk after E & K Contractors replaced water lines to 23 houses on the street between Nevada Street and Starr Avenue.

One resident even said their driveway was damaged.

Avelar said shortly after WTOL 11 reported on the issues, some sidewalks were replaced, the driveway was filled in and grass seed was put down on the dirt patches.

She says the fixes aren't perfect and there are still dirt patches while the grass grows back, but it's a step in the right direction.

"I was surprised," Avelar said. "All it takes is a little bit of news to get the ball rolling."

She said the day after Call 11 for Action reported on the issue, workers were out working on her sidewalk.

"I'd probably still be waiting even though my local city council representative was looking into it," Avelar said. "But I think it wouldn't have moved as fast if I hadn't called you."
