TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) – John Legend was in Toledo to support of President Barack Obama Thursday.
The Grammy award winning singer and Ohio-native made a stop at the University of Toledo to support Obama's re-election. While in Toledo, Legend welcomed students back to school and encouraged them to register to vote and volunteer for the campaign.
Among many reasons, Legend says he supports Obama because of his bold decision to rescue the American auto industry. Legend also highlighted the president's health care law, which allows young people to stay on their parents' insurance plan until the age of 26. Legend said he wants to help everyone make their voice heard, not matter who they end up voting for.
"It's a matter of whether or not they activate and go out there and do it, that's why we're out here you know a lot of young people may be voting for their first time so we're trying to make sure that they go out there and exercise their newly acquired rights to vote," Legend said Thursday.
A recording artist, concert performer and philanthropist, Legend has won nine Grammy awards and has been named one of Time magazine's 100 most influential people. He was born in Springfield, Ohio, and is the son of an auto manufacturing plant worker.
