SWANTON, Ohio — The 180th Fighter Wing is scheduled to conduct night flying operations this week over Ohio and Michigan, which may be seen or heard in the Toledo area.

The 180th's F-16 fighter jets are scheduled for take-off and landing until around 8:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday, weather permitting, a spokesperson for the fighter wing said in a news advisory Monday.

Residents in southern Ohio and northern Michigan in dedicated military operating airspaces may hear or see the training missions, including use of flares.

Training exercises will also take place over southeastern Ohio between 4-7 p.m. Monday. The 180th has scheduled an air defense exercise involving fighter jets in close proximity to another aircraft to simulate tracking a potential threat, which may be seen or heard in and around Hillsboro and Chillicothe.

Scheduled training may be relocated, delayed or canceled due to weather or mission changes, according to the 180th.

The 180th Fighter Wing is based in Swanton at Eugene F. Kranz Toledo Express Airport. Around 1,000 personnel are part of the 180th Fighter Wing, which is the only F-16 fighter wing in the state of Ohio.

In addition to its mission with the United States Air Force and Air National Guard, the fighter wing also provides emergency response 24 hours a day, seven days a week for Toledo Express Airport.
