SWANTON, Ohio — Editor's note: The above video is from a prior feature on the 180th's large-scale readiness training and initially aired Aug. 8, 2022.
The Ohio Air National Guard's 180th Fighter Wing will take to the skies the next few nights as part of scheduled nighttime training.
Residents in the area can expect to hear or see fighter jets taking off and landing from Monday, Feb. 12 through Thursday, Feb. 15 weather permitting, until around 9 p.m. each night. The nighttime training sessions will also include the use of flares.
Training flights typically take place during daylight hours, but F-16 pilots and maintenance personnel must participate in night operations as part of their overall readiness training, a 180th spokesperson said.
The 180th Fighter Wing is based in Swanton at Eugene F. Kranz Toledo Express Airport. Around 1,000 personnel are part of the 180th Fighter Wing.
In addition to its mission with the United States Air Force and Air National Guard, the fighter wing also provides emergency response 24 hours a day, seven days a week for Toledo Express Airport.
