DEFIANCE COUNTY, Ohio — A 19-year-old is dead and another suffered serious injuries after a crash overnight in Defiance County.
According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, 19-year-old Elliot Nolan, from Defiance, was driving a car at a high rate of speed south on Ridenour Road near Scott Road just after midnight on Sunday when he lost control.
OSHP says Nolan’s car then struck several trees before overturning.
Nolan’s passenger, 19-year-old Christopher Welch, also from Defiance, was ejected from the car.
Both Nolan and Welch sustained serious injuries as a result of the crash and had to be taken to the hospital.
At 7 p.m. on Sunday, the Ohio State Highway Patrol announced that Nolan had succumbed to his injuries.
According to troopers, seat belts were not being used.
Alcohol is a suspected factor in the crash.
