TOLEDO, Ohio — A Toledo tradition had many burning off the calories before the big meal Thanksgiving morning. The annual Dave's Turkey Chase returned to downtown.
"I just feel alive, and it's exhilarating. I feel happy that I did it," said Jamie Oland. "This is my second race this year that I've done and I can't wait for next year."
The chase brought hundreds of people to downtown Toledo. The event consisted of a 5K run, walk and a kids race. The 5K event started on Summit Street, went past Fifth Third Field, passed the Huntington Center and ended right back on Summit Street in front of our WTOL 11 studios.
"First mile was pretty easy," said Kyle Swartz. "Second mile I was just telling myself mind over matter. Third mile I was like just thinking I might as well puke past the finish line, so, ya."
The run benefited Cherry Street Mission Ministries and after the chase many runners volunteered their time to serve meals at the mission.
"Look at all the people," said Jeff McFearson. "I mean, it doesn't get any better than this, right? We have a lot to be thankful for. So come out here and run. Get your day started and go home, get something to eat, and take a nap."
