25-year-old dead after canoe capsizes in Williams County lake

Agencies from Ohio, Michigan, and Indiana assisted in recovering the man's body on Friday.

PIONEER, Ohio — A 25-year-old Williams County man is dead after his boat capsized in Lake Pioneer on Wednesday evening. 

Pioneer police say they were called to Lake Pioneer off of Lakeshore Drive around 9 p.m. for a suspected drowning.

When they arrived, a male subject told them that a canoe that capsized and that another man was in the water.

Attempts to rescue the man were unsuccessful after which agencies from Ohio, Michigan, and Indiana initiated a recovery operation.

At 7:17 p.m. on Friday, the body of 25-year-old Logan Donald Ries, from Montpelier, was located in the water.

Police say they are continuing to investigate the incident.
