WOOD COUNTY, Ohio — A second Amazon warehouse is set to be built in Wood County, Wade Gottschalk, executive director of the county's Economic Development Commission, confirmed to WTOL 11 Wednesday afternoon.
Gottschalk said the construction of the 600,000-square-foot facility could begin this summer and is expected to bring 500 jobs to the area. The warehouse is slated to cost $50 million and will be built at 9240 Fremont Pike in Perrysburg Township.
Perrysburg Township trustees unanimously voted Wednesday to approve a 10-year, 100% tax abatement for Amazon. Wood County commissioners approved the tax abatement Thursday morning.
In return, Amazon has agreed to pay Rossford schools $641,600 annually and Penta Career Center an additional $46,000 per year. Rossford schools approved the deal on May 13.
"This is absolutely great news for Wood County. Amazon is a great corporate citizen," Gottschalk said. "We're very happy that they are considering northwest Ohio for this project. We've shown we can deliver on a project and they have had success in northwest Ohio."
It would mean a large stream of money for Rossford's schools. The first warehouse, which opened in 2020, paid most of the cost for "The R," the school's multi-use facility that opened in the fall of last year.
"This is tremendous. It's wonderful news for Rossford. There will be a big influx of money," James Rossler, Rossford schools treasurer said. "We will be able to make some good decisions down the road. Amazon has been absolutely wonderful to work with."
"It's absolutely a positive," Perrysburg Township trustee Joe Schaller said. "A $50 million project, the building itself is going to add to the township's overall inventory."
Rossler said the school district should receive a base of $641,600 a year for 10 years, with the first payment expected in January 2026.
The existing Amazon warehouse in Wood County is located nearby at 27400 Crossroads Pkwy. in Rossford.
