TOLEDO, Ohio — A woman was sent to the hospital after a crash in south Toledo on Wednesday morning.

Maria Eichhorn, 70, was traveling westbound on Airport Highway and attempted to turn onto South Byrne Road, but was traveling too fast to make the turn, according to the Toledo Police.

TPD said that she then drove up on the traffic island at the intersection and struck a traffic light pole.

Eichhorn was transported to the hospital with what crews believed were minor injuries before her condition worsened. Police said that hospital staff determined that she suffered potentially life-threatening injuries in the crash.

TPD said that they continue to investigate the crash.
