WOOD COUNTY, Ohio — A 78-year-old man is dead after a crash in Wood County on Sunday evening.

The Wood County Sheriff’s Office said a pickup truck being driven by Timothy Workman of Fostoria was traveling east on State Route 281 in Portage Township when another pickup it was towing went off the side of the road as the vehicles turned north on Solether Rd. at a slow rate of speed.

The sheriff’s office said Workman was using tow straps to tow the second pickup truck.

The second pickup overturned as it went into a ditch.

78-year-old Alva Barnes, of Weston, who was riding in the pickup that was being towed was ejected from the passenger side door of the pickup and became entrapped under the overturned truck.

Barnes was pronounced dead at the scene.

The crash happened around 7:30 p.m. and remains under investigation.
