TOLEDO, Ohio — What do miniature ferries, macaroni and cheese in the shower and beloved actor Pedro Pascal have in common? They were all part of April Fools' Day jokes from local businesses, organizations and more.
April 1 is an annual playground of goofy tricks and light-hearted hoaxes that can make a person second-guess if they should be taking what they see at face value or if they're just another an April Fool.
The day has a history of legendary pranks. Two years ago, "Good Morning America" host Michael Strahan deceived the internet into thinking he was saying goodbye to the signature gap in his teeth.
Locally, the Put-in-Bay tourism industry is well-known for making the most of the day, whether it be an underwater tunnel to the island or submarine tours to the depths of Lake Erie. This year is no different.
WTOL 11 has compiled a list of some local April Fools' Day jokes below:
Blanke granted casino license for Put-in-Bay
"In a shocking turn of events, Put-in-Bay businessman John Blanke has been granted a casino license for an as-of-yet unbuilt establishment on the lot that used to be home to T&J’s Smokehouse," according to a post on putinbayohio.com.
Blanke has also tossed around the idea of opening a pool bar and a strip club.
New addition to the Miller Ferry fleet
Excited about a trip to the Lake Erie islands? Miller Boat Line has a fun-sized way to take you out on the waters.
The Mini Miller is already booked for the year with private charters, according to a social media post from Miller Boat Line, so better luck in 2025.
Shower-ready mac and cheese
Want to smell nice and cheesy for your next date? The Maybe Cheese Born With It food truck has unveiled a product months in the making: shampoo and body wash.
"Let the delectable scent of macaroni and cheese waft through the air every time you toss your hair back!" the food truck wrote on social media.
Toledo School for the Arts' newest employee
A beloved actor has put a galaxy far, far away in the rearview mirror in favor of rediscovering himself in local theater.
Pedro Pascal, star of "The Mandalorian" and "The Last of Us," and recently announced as Mr. Fantastic in next year's "Fantastic Four" reboot, has cast aside the glitz and glamour of Hollywood to take on his newest role as a theater teacher at Toledo School for the Arts, the school said in a social media post.
Yet another roundabout
The village of Walbridge has seen an uptick in traffic, according to a social media post, and the construction of a roundabout is under consideration by village leadership.
Crocheting for critters
If humans have to wear underpants, then squirrels should too.
Nature's Nursery is offering a class on how to crochet a pair of underwear perfect for a little woodland creature.
The wildlife rehabilitation center even provided helpful pictures of what a pair of yarn underwear would look like on a squirrel in a social media post.
Say goodbye to The Old Bag of Nails Pub
... and say hello to the New Sack of Hammers.
Something new for cat people
The Glass City Dog Park has a new focus: cats.
The Glass City Cat Park will debut in 2025. It's just a regular human playground, except it's meant for cats.
