PORT CLINTON, Ohio — Northwest Ohio is full of local talent from musicians to actors, and artists.
Now, one man is celebrating his homecoming with a special exhibit to showcase his hometown.
Every one to two months, the Greater Port Clinton Area Arts Council rotates a featured artist or exhibit inside The Arts Garage.
Starting this weekend, the art of Mark Lamp is on display for six weeks.
Lamp is originally from Port Clinton, but has been living in England for years. He said after picking painting back up about seven years ago, one of his inspirations was thoughts of home.
"Living abroad has given me time to reflect on my time here and sort of processing those memories in my art," Lamp said.
The exhibit "Shore Leave" is a collection of familiar images from around Ottawa County.
While "Shore Leave" is on display, guests can also see the work of the multiple resident artists who call The Arts Garage home.
The goal is to not only share their art with the community, but to also potentially inspire more prospective artists to pick up an artistic hobby.
"Art is healing and meditative and just really does help people with any kind of stress in your life. You are stress-less when you're doing something artistic," said Barbara Radebaugh, GPCAAC president.
"It's just a really important part of life, art and creating things," Lamp said. "I think it often gets overlooked and overshadowed by just trying to exist and make money."
Lamp's exhibition "Shore Leave" will be on display at The Arts Garage through April 28.
