BGSU plans to resume on-campus classes fall semester

Two task forces are currently working out plans for the return to campus

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio — After weeks of uncertainty Bowling Green State University officials are speaking out about plans for the fall semester.

University officials said although things are still being worked out, they are planning for the school year to start around the end of August, and welcome students back to campus.

"I suspect parents are concerned about safety as students also, we've done a survey of students and again there is concern about the virus spread," said Joe Whitehead, Provost & Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs at BGSU.

Two task forces are currently working out plans for the return to campus. One task force is focused on the academic and social student experience for students, and the other committee is focused on operations around campus to keep everyone safe. Both committees are made up of students and staff.

"Mid-June we will have our first set of draft plans from the two committees, then we will review those plans and refine those based off the knowledge we have at that time," said Whitehead.

Different learning options will most likely be offered for students, like having the choice to take a class in person or virtually. Additionally social distancing polices for dorms are also being worked out.

The University of Toledo is expected to make an announcement about their plans on Friday.
