BOWLING GREEN, Ohio — The city of Bowling Green is responding to damage from Tuesday’s storms by moving up the scheduled date for September brush collection.

The collection will now begin Sept. 3 instead of the previously scheduled date of Sept. 16, according to an announcement from the city of Bowling Green. There are no changes to October’s scheduled brush collection.

The storms that swept through the area left behind heavy tree damage, especially in Wood County.

Residents do not need to register to participate in brush collection.

The brush pickup is for all brush and not only brush that is the result of the storms. To ensure pickup, brush must be placed on the curb by 7 a.m. on Sept. 3. Pickup is by ward and not normal refuse collection day.

According to the city of Bowling Green's website, brush is defined as "anything having a bark covering, such as burning bushes/clippings, shrub clippings, shrubs, tree limbs, twigs, etc."

Residents should not bundle brush and limbs and instead leave them loosely at the curb. Brush that is mixed with leaves or yard debris will not be collected. The city said that at its discretion, it will not collect entire trees placed in the right of way because of work by a contractor. For residents living in cul-de-sacs, brush should not be placed in green space as it may block fire hydrants or may not be able to be removed by city equipment.

Brush can also be taken to the Wood County Landfill’s Yard Waste Disposal Area for a fee.

Residents can find more information regarding the brush collection program on the city’s website at this link or by calling Public Works at 419-354-6227.
