Bowling Green woman recovering after Jan. 1 apartment fire

Jenna Low and her family lost their apartment and everything in it, including their dog. Now, they begin the process of recovering, physically and financially.

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio — A Bowling Green woman is recovering after an intense fire that completely destroyed her apartment forced her to jump from a second-story window. The single mother lost everything, except for her two children who were not home at the time of the fire.

"There's nothing. It's completely burnt to nothing," Low's sister Cassandra said.

Jenna Low broke her pubic bone on impact, after escaping the fire that began in the early morning hours of Jan. 1 at the Garden Grove Townhomes on North Grove Street.

"She went over to the window, opened it, turned around and evaluated it because she was scared to jump," Jenna's sister, Cassandra, said. "There was no way, so she had to jump out of the second-story window."

While Jenna's children were not home when the fire broke out, her dog was, and unfortunately did not survive.

She's been released from the hospital but is bedridden and unable to walk while recovering for the next month.

"She's a worker," Cassandra said. "She works 60 hours a week. She's just uncomfortable that she can't go to work for a while. She's going to have that financial burden."

In the meantime, Jenna and her children are staying with family until they can find a permanent place to live. Cassandra said the community's help would mean everything.

"She has some major anxiety from everything that happened," Cassandra said. "It would be a relief for her to know that the community cares enough to make sure that she can start over and that her kids can have the life that they deserve."

To support Jenna and her family, donate to the GoFundMe set up by Cassandra.

WTOL 11 reached out to the Ohio State Fire Marshal. The cause of the fire is undetermined and remains under investigation. Investigators believe the fire started in the kitchen.
