Brady Hall, 18, joins Washington Local Schools Board of Education

Brady Hall, 18, was inspired to run for the board of education following a shooting during a Whitmer High School football game in October 2022.

TOLEDO, Ohio — A recent graduate of Whitmer High School officially joined the Washington Local Schools Board of Education on Thursday.

Brady Hall, 18, began campaigning as a 17-year-old during his senior year at Whitmer.

He was inspired to run for the board of education following a shooting during a Whitmer High School football game in October 2022. Three people were wounded in the shooting, including one of Hall's fellow students.

Because of this, Hall centered his campaign largely on ensuring the safety of students in the district.

“I think Washington Local Schools is in the best time we could be in to focus on safety,” Hall said. “We are building those new buildings, the new middle school, we’ve got more elementaries and other projects coming up. We have a really good opportunity to equip our buildings with the most safe, the most modern technology that will keep our students safe.”

Hall was elected to one of two open seats on the district's school board in November with 27% of the vote. He was sworn in Thursday along with Lauren Moore to serve a four-year term on the board, joining incumbents Mark Hughes, Karen Mayfield and Michael Murphy.

"It’s very nice now to come in and sit alongside our five board members, our treasurer and superintendent, and know that the politics is laid to rest and we are worried about the best interests of our students going forward," Hall said. "We don’t have to worry about the politics, we are ready to move forward for Washington Local.”
