Bryan family remembers fallen soldier on Memorial Day

Sgt. Michael Paul Hodshire made the ultimate sacrifice in 2005 when he lost his life in action in Iraq.

BRYAN, Ohio — A family in Bryan honored the life of a fallen soldier on Memorial Day by reminding of who he was and showing gratitude to all others who died in action.

Tarry Eicher says they are paying special tribute to her son Sgt. Michael Paul Hodshire.

"Memorial Day means a lot, to be thankful for the men and women that served our country. that have supported us to live the life that we're living here today," Eicher said.

Eicher's son made the ultimate sacrifice for our country at the young age of 25.

"My son's name is Sgt. Michael Paul Hodshire. He was in the second battalion Marine Corps 8th and 9th," Eicher said.

Eicher says her son was killed in action while in Iraq in 2005.

"He took the most hard-hit and he lost his life, went over an IED with the Hummer," said Eicher.

Hodshire left behind two sons to carry his legacy, and today, on Memorial Day they celebrate the life he lived.

"I just want to make a shout out to my dad for being the hero that he is and I want him to know that I miss him and he does mean a lot to me. So today is very special for him," Hodshire's son, Thomas Hodshire, said.

"There are so many words I want to say right now but I can't because it's hard. Especially today, but he's my hero. And so are the rest of the men and women around here that sacrifice their lives for us to be free here," Eicher said.

It's a day of big significance to the family and they're asking you to help them in recognizing our local heroes who were gone too soon.

"Say thank you, or a handshake and tell them Thank you for serving our country because they don't hear that when they come home. And they're across the United States fighting for us and they go through a lot of things that we don't even want to see and when they come home for them,"  Eicher said.

Eicher also helps veterans by donating some of the money she makes when selling food at her food trailer. The money can go to paying veteran's rent or other items they need.
