Buckeye Real Estate Company planning to build new Maumee subdivision

Some area residents WTOL 11 spoke with say the development could help support the Anthony Wayne School district, but they also have some hesitation.

MAUMEE, Ohio — The Buckeye Real Estate Group plans to build a new subdivision in Maumee with more than 300 hundred homes.

Jason White, the company's director of sales and marketing, said the project entails 130 villas and 170 single-family homes on Black Road, near the Shops at Fallen Timbers.

The homes will range around $300,000-400,000, with the villas being on the cheaper side and the single-family homes being closer to the upper end of the range and featuring two stories, four bedrooms and two bathrooms.

"This plan has been in the works for almost three years now," White said. "There's a lot that goes into it and we're really excited to bring it over to the finish line."

White added that the subdivision will likely bring in empty nesters and young people.

"In previous subdivisions we've done that are similar to this, is a lot of times we'll have grandparents living on the villa side and their kids and their grandkids living on the home side," he said. "So it's a really inclusive subdivision where we've had a lot of success with it in the past."

As the homes will be in the Anthony Wayne School District, some nearby residents said they hope this will help with future levies.

"We can see more students and families coming into the Anthony Wayne school district and then being able to hopefully pass the levies and get more business into the area such as the fallen timbers," said resident Christopher Penzinski.

While he supports it, he just hopes this won't crowd the area. Other residents raised that concern, too.

"We're all out here to get away from the big city kind of thing so there's a double-edged sword there as well. The more population, the more businesses and more population just creates what it does," White said.

White said there isn't a model of the homes yet, but the villas and ranches will connect to the Wabash Cannonball Trail.

"We will actually have two connection points and we'll have bike trails going throughout our subdivision as well," he said.

The company is also planning to build a dog park.

"In terms of length of construction, a lot of it is market-driven," White said. "If we sell 100 homes a year, it's going to go a lot quicker. A lot of that's just decided by the market. We want to get the first initial class into  both include villas as well as homes and then after that, it's really just a market-driven process on the timeline."

White said the company aims to begin construction next year.
