OREGON, Ohio — A new brewery is coming soon to Oregon.
Buffalo Rock Brewing Company strives to be a social gathering place, says co-founder Troy Burns.
"We don't have a bunch of TVs hanging around and all over the wall, and it's for that exact purpose; I want people to come, sit down and talk," he said.
The brewery, located at the intersection of Seaman and South Wynn roads in Oregon, is the first microbrewery in the city. It's also at the site of an old firehouse, which was an easy decision for Burns.
"When we saw this and saw the garage doors, we were like 'man, this really plays right in line with what we did in Waterville,'" Burns said.
This brewery is the second one for Buffalo Rock. Its original location opened in 2020 in Waterville during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Oregon City Council members say the business will bring great economic opportunities with it.
"We need all of them (residents) to see Oregon, and this is going to be something that introduces them to other areas in Oregon where the living is very pleasant," said council member Beth Ackerman. "I really think it's going to spread how much we have to offer out there instead of just putting all of our eggs onto one street."
When the brewery officially opens within a month-and-a-half time span, customers will get to choose from 22 different beers on tap made in-house by people passionate about the craft, said brewer Geoff Burns.
"Once it's done and you make it, you're sweating and you're lifting a bunch of heavy equipment, once it's on tap and people are like, you can see them enjoying it ... 'oh, that's fulfilling,'" he said.
The owners not only want to serve high-quality brews, but also become a mainstay in the Oregon community.
"We want to be a part of the community," said Troy Burns. "We do that over there and want to play a heavy role in donations and stuff to the community and we want to be known for that."
Burns declined to provide an exact opening date for the brewery.
