ADRIAN, Mich. — A Lenawee County teenager is recovering at the hospital following a hit and run accident.

A vigil for young man was held on Saturday evening in Adrian.

Family and friends of 15-year-old Dakota Courington, gathered outdoors at Island Park on Saturday.

Over 30 people were at the vigil to show love and support for one of their own.

Dakota was just weeks away from the start of his freshman year of high school at Adrian High School when he was the victim of a hit and run accident on August 9th, according to his family.

Dakota was heading to his friend’s house when a driver struck him.

WTOL 11 spoke to Dakota’s family who say they are thankful for the unwavering support from the community.

"I can’t be any prouder of Adrian than I am today, because they stood together and been here and they have supported us. They have given us leads and they have given us everything and, like I said, my words are too strong and I just can’t believe how this community has turned out," said Jack Courington, Dakota's father.

At this time, the suspect has not been caught.

According to the Courington family, Dakota is still in the hospital in critical condition.

They say Dakota has a long road to recovery but he is making some progress.
